Friday morning, Jason was out at a business meeting. James (the guy who works in-house) was upstairs. Joshua found a loose coffee bean and was playing with it. I watched him rub it around his face and then move towards his nose. Before I knew it, he had pushed it into his left nostril. He didn’t seem too concerned about it, so I knew he wasn’t in pain. But when he did come to me, he was rubbing his nose. This, I knew, was not good. When I looked inside, it looked dark on both sides, so I thought it was far down. But he wasn’t coughing. So I tried to get him to pinch one side shut and blow out his nose. Instead, he snorted inward. Agh! Panic! Either it’ll go into his throat and he’ll swallow, or he’ll inhale, and I don’t know what will happen next. I got him closer to a light and looked again. I could see it. So I took some closed tweezers and gently worked under it to slide it forward, rather than pinch it and possibly push it further back. He was more uncomfortable with it sliding out, than it just sitting there, blocking his breathing! Out it came, and he didn’t even want to look at it. All was well, and I completely forgot to tell Jason until the next day. The drama was over 🙂
